ARG - Ginobili: I am no Maradona

BUENOS AIRES (Basketball Without Borders Americas) - Fresh from clinching the NBA title with the San Antonio Spurs, Olympic gold medalist Manu Ginobili has laughed off claims that he is the new Diego Maradona.

Ginobili and fellow Argentinian NBA stars Andres Nocioni and Carlos Delfino plus Dikembe Mutombo from Congo are taking part in the event Basketball without Borders Americas.

The training camp in Buenos Aires is organised by FIBA, NBA Latin America, the Argentinian Basketball Confederation and the Government's Sports Secretary.

The camp will be held from Thursday to Sunday.

Ginobili said: "Basketball Without Borders is a very nice experience which has to be continued.

"As soon as the organisers told me about the idea, I accepted enthusiastically."

Asked about the NBA title, Ginobili said: "I'm glad to know that the coach (Gregg Popovich) and my team-mates have trust in me.

"The job of match-winning used to belong to (Tim) Duncan, but after winning the Olympic gold medal (in Athens 2004), Popovich put his trust in me."

Ginobili played down talk that he is Argentina's new Maradona.

"It's unbelievable what is happening here (in Argentina)," he said. "I don't feel I'm the new Maradona."
