BWB Asia 2009 Beijing, 30 July to 2 August All Camps

BEIJING 2009 -BWB Asia took place on July 30 – August 2 2009 in Beijing, China. Located at the Beijing Olympic Training Facility, 50 players from 19 countries across Asia attended the camp. Also present at the camp to serve as coaches were NBA players Dikembe Mutumbo, Mickael Pietrus, Brandon Rush, and Jason Terry.

Campers were divided into four teams and took part in daily clinics ran by the NBA players focusing on basic fundamental drills. In the afternoons and evenings the teams, each of which coached by an NBA player, competed in a small competition that lasted until the final day of the camp. An All-Star game was held on the final day of the camp, followed by an award ceremony and then a closing dinner for the camp participants.

Off the court, players participated in a program known as “Life-Skills” which aims to educate players on such subjects as the importance of leadership, teamwork, education, and health. Typically the seminars are held daily, however the 2009 Asia camp only held one seminar due to H1N1 prevention efforts. BWB also continued its community outreach programs; opening an NBA Cares Play Space in a local school as well as hosting a Special Olympics Clinic which hosted 80 special Olympics athletes.
