BWB Europe 2005 Treviso, 28 to 31 July All Camps

TREVISO 2005 – Basketball without Borders Europe took place from July 28th – 31st 2005 in Treviso, Italy. The camp was held for the third consecutive year at La Ghirada Sports Complex, where it was host to around fifty of Europe’s top players aged 16-18 years old. Countries represented on the camp’s roster were Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Holland, Poland, Romania, Serbia & Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey. The selection of pan-European players was divided into 4 teams, each of which was coached by one NBA player as well as an NBA coach. Teams competed in matches during the afternoons and evenings, whilst NBA players and coaches were selected to run skill-stations in the mornings. The morning clinics focused on fundamental drills such as passing, shooting, dribbling, one-on-one moves, as well as other defensive and offensive stratagem.

The NBA players who served as coaches were Bruce Bowen of the San Antonio Spurs, Primoz Brezec of the Charlotte Bobcats, Gordan Giricek and Andrei Kirilenko of the Utah Jazz, Zaza Pachulia of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Dallas Mavericks big man Dirk Nowitzki. The NBA players were also accompanied by NBA coaching personnel such as the Chicago Bulls recent head coach Vinny Del Negro.

In accordance to BWB’s objective to promote goodwill and education through sport, UNICEF returned to BWB for the third year running to conduct a daily life skills seminar for the campers. The seminars were aimed specifically to educate and warn about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
In addition to the life skills seminars, BWB’s community outreach program saw the NBA players attend various events such as day-long youth clinics, school visits, and trips to meet with fans.
