BWB Europe 2003 Treviso, 28 June to 1 July All Camps

ITALY 2003 – The BWB camp took place from June 28-July 1 in Treviso, Italy. About fifty 15-17 year olds from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia & Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey were selected to participate at the camp by FIBA based on their basketball skills and leadership potential.

The campers were divided into four teams (Grizzlies, Spurs, Jazz and Clippers), regardless of nationality, and then competed in various drills and a mini-tournament under the direction of six NBA players who attended the camp as coaches. The NBA entourage included such household names as Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs and Pau Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies.

While a high level of basketball was demonstrated at the camp, 2003 was the first year that BWB partnered with UNICEF to support education and HIV/AIDS prevention programs. Campers attended daily 1-hour long seminars ran by UNICEF intended to promote leadership, education, and HIV/AIDS awareness.
