BWB Europe 2002 Istanbul, 4 to 7 July All Camps

TURKEY 2002 – The second ever BWB camp was held in Istanbul, Turkey from July 4th – 7th 2002. Co-organised by FIBA, the United Nations, and the NBA, BWB’s objective is to build friendship and cooperation between young basketball players from different countries.

About 25 top-ranking junior players from each country attended the camp, graced by the presence of seven NBA/FIBA players such as Hedo Turkoglo of the Sacramento Kings.
In 2002 the camp format specified that players would be divided into four teams, each team named after an NBA team such as the Grizzlies, Kings, Lakers, etc. Composed of a random mix of nationalities, the teams competed by earning points based on team performance in pre-determined fundamental drills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, etc. This form of competition certainly added a beneficial factor to the camp, allowing the participants and NBA players to interact with each other in a fun and positive atmosphere. Beyond the fundamental drills, each team played a total of four games in a mini tournament.

Basketball aside, campers attended daily seminars conducted by the UN. The seminars covered a range of topics from leadership qualities to drug use education and prevention.
